Have you ever had the feeling where it feels like timing is just not on your side? Same. Constantly. And that is basically how this blog started, slightly chaotic and probably badly timed, yet here we are. However, if there is one thing cabin crew should know better than anyone, it’s timings and turnarounds. You would think that phrase just applies to flights and schedules right? Well… no. Turns out it applies to pretty much everything when it comes to life – including blogging. I have to admit, work timings, turnarounds and all that jazz is something which, if I say so myself, am pretty decent at. Life? Not so much. I have to admit, if there is one thing I’ve learned so far it’s that timing is never right.
Starting this blog feels a little bit like a layover, you land somewhere – I was going to say new, but for the people who know me, it’s usually Glasgow, Edinburgh, or Dublin. Alas, you land somewhere with little to no time and you’re just trying to make the most of it before you’re flying out again. The only difference here, however, is that instead of rushing through security, I’m rushing, panicking and stressing to actually publish my first post without overthinking myself into oblivion.
Yes, I spend the majority of the time flying people from A to B and that is great and I love doing it (…9 out of 10 times). However, this blog is not just about flying passengers from one destination to another, it’s about all the in-between bits, all the stuff you don’t get to see during the safetydemo, not just onboard, but the safetydemo of life in general. Because trust me, life doesn’t always come with a safetycard or lifejacket trying to keep you afloat. All the stories, sarcasm and life lessons I’ve picked up along the way, not only at 35.000 feet, but in the general turbulence called life. And who would I be without having the not so occasional, but more permanent chaotic thoughts that probably shouldn’t be left in my head for too long.
Here we are, finally launching my blog with hopefully not too bad of a first post, with of course more to come, where some of my personal stories will be shared – trust me when I say, the skies have given me plenty. But also my work-life tales, cause yes, although a lot of people assume working as cabin crew is living your best glamours life, trust me when I say that when you’re covered in tomato juice, you just spilled your last club meal all over the galley floor, whilst dealing with a fussy pilot who couldn’t get over himself for not getting bread roll and still having to serve champagne at 35.000 feet with a smile; you might consider all your life choices and just think to yourself for just a split second: “what the actual f*ck am I actually doing in life?!” But hey, once you’re landed and no, not just in life, you just have to laugh at it. Because if you can’t, you probably shouldn’t be in this “oh so glamorous job 😉” or, reading my blog.
So, here we are my blog officially boarding. Talking about timings and turnarounds – is life perfect? No. Are we sometimes delayed? Yes. Occasionally chaotic? 100%. But most importantly, always taking off and that is what its all about. So if you don’t like sarcasm, dry humour, or reading about a girl who is literally trying to wing it in life, than I kindly ask you to leave through the emergency exits which are pointed out by your crew. If you are up for a bit of turbulence and not sure what destination is going to be next, then I would love to welcome you all onboard, whether that is business class, or economy. One thing I do know, is that I promise it will be at least interesting, so please fasten your seatbelts and enjoy the ride.
Love,
Rose
