Fasten your seatbelt this ride comes with sarcasm, turbulence, and the occasional complimentary peanut.

Well well well, hello hello! It’s been a while and a lot has happened, or… has it? No, all jokes aside a couple of things have happened. I’m still working as cabin crew (don’t you worry 😉), I’m still confused about a lot of things, I am still very much broke – trust me, very much so – am I dating someone? Well… I guess we can say maybe. And I may or may not have discovered in the last few weeks that life is short, pilots are expensive, and yes apparently people make real money selling feet photos. Recent events have made me think a lot about life, A LOT! So, lets dive in and see what has happened over the last couple of weeks shall we?

So… as mentioned, I still work as cabin crew and yes I am still enjoying it. Has my sleep pattern slightly improved now that the summer schedule is finally over and I’m, sort of, being rostered normal working hours? Yes, for sure. I feel like this summer was WILD, but good at the same time. I know it was my very first summer as Inflight Customer Service Manager and it was actually, surprise surprise, a good summer. Yes of course, there were countless of days with no sleep and little rest, full flights and shouting passengers but hey, that is summer as cabin crew for you in a nutshell. Don’t get me wrong, during the long days and little to no time down route, there were still the evenings where we (the crew) forced ourselves to go for dinner (not sure if we can call Spoons nice, if you know, you know) but hey, on cabin crew wage we cannot really afford anything else I guess (unless you’re either still living at home, you have a rich husband, or have a side hustle #OnlyFans lol. Trust me, it happens more often than you might think, and hey no judgement here! In all honesty I was very close myself into creating an account on Sofia Gray, or whatever the website is called. You’d basically sell photo’s of your feet online, the only thing holding me back was the fact that you have to make an investment first before you can start selling your little feet photo’s on the internet). Anyways, other than the chaotic, but joyful – for the most parts – summer, I have to say that I am glad things are slowing down and feel like a fulltime part timer. Of course I’m still fulltime, I mean hello, I earn basically just about the minimum wage, but feel like I’m living a maximum wage life in London, so… unless this blog starts to do very well and I’ll get discovered by Cosmo or any other magazine/website who’d like me to write a weekly column; I have to do it with cheap dinners and drinks at Spoons for now.

I do think that covers the broke bit of my life as nothing on the financial aspect has changed, sad times, trust me I know! And let me tell you, dating someone is not cheap either, I repeat not cheap my god! Especially if you date someone who is in a slightly different salary bracket, than you. This is where I start to get very very Dutch. The saying “lets go Dutch” is not being said for any reason. No, trust me when I as a Dutchie, take this very seriously. Well… I say very seriously but what I mean is, I don’t like it when other people pay, especially when the bill is actually very high and although the other person can afford it (ohhh to be a pilot, must be nice. Hey, don’t get me wrong I know they’ve studied very very hard to get where they are now, for sure. 2 years to be exact), there is still a part of me which feels very guilty.

So, now you know that I am dating a pilot, which lets face it, is kind of a cliché thinking about it lol, but you know what? Trust me when I say that over the last year I have tried Hinge, Bumble and yes even Tinder (I know I know, low point), but your girl wasn’t getting any matches. It’s a tough world out there, especially in the London dating scene. The way we actually met for the first time is even more cliché. Me being my clumsy self, I (by accident) threw my passport at him which sort of was a good opening line. Anyway, I won’t go into anymore details, but so far (fingers crossed) it is actually going alright. Apart from me being my very insecure and overthinking self.

So other than work and dating I’ve taken some time off in October to go and visit my family. I love going back and spend some time with my family and see my best friend, it is just nice to get out of the busy city and rewind a bit and enjoy the calmness of home away from home. Anyway, I feel like the older I get and the older my parents get, it makes the time we spend together so much more precious than it used to be. Of course, don’t get me wrong whatever time you get  with your family is precious time anyway right? Anyway, in the month October we received an email from the company about a colleague of ours who sadly passed away. I’ve flown with him and obviously saw him around at work because it’s small base. The sad thing was, the man was still quite young, he was only cabin crew for a couple of months and yet life was taken away from him. I think that moment, along with a couple of other factors made me realise that life is actually so short and that we have to enjoy it as much as we can. Of course, we all have our down days and that is completely fine but, I was talking to my colleague today and she said the exact same thing; you never know when your last day is going to be, so why spend it grumpy or being upset about minor things when you can also celebrate it and enjoy the time you do get with your loved ones? And hey, of course I completely understand that this isn’t always the case, again we all have our shit days or shitty phases and that is also part of life. However, I do think it did put things in perspective and made me realise that the time I get to spend with my family makes it even more precious and worthwhile than ever. Don’t get me wrong there are still so many things I freak out about, or stress over; like the fact that my parents are aging and that my dad his health isn’t the best and the fact that he is turning 70 in February, and again don’t get me wrong it is good they are aging (at least I am lucky enough to see them age well), but at the same time it is something which does stress/freak me out and that is also completely fine. I guess the whole situation with my colleague passing shook me more than I expected.

So yeah, this is where I currently am in life: emotionally stressed, financially limping, possibly seeing this very nice and let’s not forget hot man (is it too good to be true?! Who knows), and of course, learning that life is too bloody short not to enjoy the small wins. Even when everything around us feels like an organised chaos, hey like I’ve said before we are all just winging it and if that means we can at least still laugh, (over) stress, panic, cry and overspend at Spoons whilst still dragging ourselves to another early 5am report, then honestly? I’m not doing too bad if I say so myself. So let’s see whatever comes next…ideally more sleep and a little less of a turbulent life and a slightly healthier bank balance.

Love,

Rose
